UMass Global
Sitecore Upgrade Brings Personalization, A/B Testing, and more
The Challenge
University of Massachusetts (UMass) Global is a private institution with campuses throughout Washington and California.
The university needed to upgrade from Sitecore 8.2 to Sitecore 10. Support for Sitecore 8.2 was going away, and they wanted to continue receiving Sitecore support.
Prior to coming to Oshyn, another company attempted to perform the upgrade, but the project was unsuccessful.
The Solution
Oshyn was already familiar with what they would find in the UMass system, having previously performed several upgrades. Oshyn performed a content migration, upgraded the code to the latest version, assessed architecture design, performed regression testing, pipeline development, an environment buildout, and a Sitecore installation.
The process Oshyn focused on included:
-
Designed the solution to be fault tolerant and highly available
-
Installing and Configuring Sitecore 10
-
Creating and Executing 90+ Test Cases
-
Removing all dependencies on WebForms for marketers
-
Enabling zero downtime deployments with automated load balancer management
Oshyn needed to rebuild a Salesforce integration and rework custom jobs to ETL program data from the Banner LMS in order for these tools to work with the latest version of Sitecore. With their extensive experience performing Sitecore upgrades and using proprietary tools for the upgrade, the installation was faster and more accurate with all features and functionality in place.
The Outcome
Oshyn successfully upgraded the UMass Global website. There was no downtime for users and no significant downtime for editors during the process. Now leads are coming through the site daily, and UMass Global can take advantage of new Sitecore DXP functionality, including personalization, A/B testing, analytics, and more.
