NW Natural expanded income-qualified discounts to Washington residents after bug-free Sitecore development on a tight regulatory deadline.
The Challenge
NW Natural, Oregon’s largest natural gas utility, serves over 2.5 million customers globally, delivering natural gas to commercial and residential sectors. The business also has major operations in Washington, with a reported revenue of $1.03B in 2023.
Due to a state legal requirement compelling NW Natural to provide qualified customers with lower-cost natural gas service, NWN set out to build a Washington State Bill Discount application form. This would require Oshyn to showcase its ability to work under pressure due to a firm deadline set by the Washington state regulatory board.
The new application form would enable customers whose income was below the state’s median to obtain discounts on Natural Gas services. It would also expand the income-qualified discounts to Washington residents that were previously available to Oregon residents.
The Solution
Oshyn was selected for its Sitecore development expertise and collaborated with the NWN team to provide recommendations for the new user interface and technical requirements.
Oshyn built the new Bill Discount Form in Angular and Typescript on Sitecore 10.2. Oshyn provided technical architecture recommendations for the system integration and user interface and performed quality assurance testing to ensure the newly developed pages worked optimally.
Oshyn had to remain adaptable due to delays in receiving additional requirements and the need to adapt code to numerous changes in functional requirements during development. The Form application consisted of two pages. The first was an eligibility form for entering state, household size, and annual gross income. The second page offered a discount form for WA and OR residents, which included a personalized experience that displayed different fields based on the selected state.
The Outcome
Oshyn’s successful development of the new Bill Discounts Form included zero reported bugs after launch. The project was completed before the regulatory deadline and within budget, demonstrating the team’s efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
